Turning a Maze into a Map: StackMap Guides the Way at Hamilton Public

Navigating the Hamilton Public Library in Hamilton, New York, has long been a challenge - it’s unconventional layout is a lasting remnant of the building’s origins as a private home.  We spoke with Liza Taylor, Assistant Director at Hamilton Public Library, to learn how implementing StackMap has transformed their wayfinding system and enhanced the overall library experience:

"The reason I wanted to get StackMap was because our library has a very unique floor plan that used to be a house. We ended up incorporating several additions to the library that resulted in a lot of space, but it’s all broken up into small rooms that connect in odd ways, making it very confusing to try and find things. Based on this, we knew we needed a customizable wayfinding solution that would make it easy for us to update the library space if needed, while also providing patrons with the information they need to easily find what they’re looking for."

When Hamilton Public Library reached out to StackMap, they were looking for a solution that could adapt to their library’s specific needs. The setup process was straightforward, and the StackMap team worked closely with Liza and her staff to ensure the system was tailored to their unique space.

"The initial setup was fairly simple once the StackMap team walked us through the process of what would be needed on our end and how they would take care of the rest," Liza shares. "I was pleasantly surprised to see that StackMap was able to accommodate our unique building and stack layout needs."

Now that StackMap is fully implemented, Hamilton Public Library is already seeing the benefits. The library staff is eager to gather feedback from patrons as they explore the new wayfinding system. 

"Given how new the setup is, we are very excited to hear about how patrons are liking the product," says Liza. " I’m hoping that patrons will feel an increased sense of confidence in terms of finding things in the library, because before StackMap, it could get a bit confusing trying to find different collections."

As the library continues to grow and change, StackMap’s customizable design ensures that patrons can confidently navigate the space—no matter how the library evolves in the future.
