Team Spotlight: Maggie Browne, Public Library Sales Lead

Maggie Browne worked in Rhode Island public libraries as a Collection Development/Readers’ Advisor and Assistant Director for 12 years before joining StackMap. As the Public Library Sales Lead, Maggie gets to meet librarians from all over the world at national and international library conferences and teach them how StackMap works.

I truly was made to work in the library world. I made a little “All About Me” booklet in the first grade where I drew pictures of me as a librarian. I wrote in it, “In the year 2010, I will be a libearian,” and drew a picture of myself sitting at the desk at my local library. Lo and behold, my first year working in a library was in 2010 at that same library where I grew up in North Kingstown Free Library. I started as an intern and then became the Fiction Coordinator/Readers’ Advisory Librarian. I was in charge of curation and collection development for most adult materials, helping patrons find their next great read and running all of the book clubs. Then, I moved to another Rhode Island library, Newport Public Library, as the Collection Development Manager and finally worked the last few years as Assistant Director.

I found out about StackMap and the Public Library Sales Lead role from a job posting on my graduate school’s jobline. I looked into what StackMap did, and I immediately thought to myself, “I wish I had this at my previous library jobs, it would have saved me so much time!” I couldn’t believe the software existed, let alone that they were hiring for a job that I was the perfect fit for. It was the exact blend of remote work and flexibility, which I was really hoping for in order to find a good balance for my family life. But I still work with and help librarians and libraries every day.  I’ve had the opportunity to travel to many different library conferences and meet librarians from all over. For example, I went to Ireland last month for the Library Association of Ireland Conference, and this month, I’ve gone to several state conferences. I’m flying to Rotterdam this summer for the International Federation of Library Associations Conference (IFLA), and I’m excited to meet librarians from all over the world to see how StackMap can meet their accessibility and wayfinding needs. The more StackMap grows, the more we’re able to have a presence at a wide range of library conferences and bring our mapping solutions to as many libraries as possible.

A lot of the work that librarians do goes unseen by the public. There are countless people both on the front lines and behind the scenes who are making things work smoothly — from resources to programs, outreach, advocacy, and on top of that, all of the day-to-day necessities of running a public institution. It’s so satisfying to offer a product to libraries that increases their bandwidth for all of these competing responsibilities. I feel proud to be working for a company that understands all of this and appreciates how important libraries are to their communities and the world at large.
