Using StackMap During a Catalog Migration

The School of Visual Arts in New York City has been using StackMap since the summer of 2016, and in the middle of 2019, they began to migrate their search catalog from a Voyager-based catalog to New Primo. We spoke with Digital Services Librarian, Phoebe Stein, about the transition and StackMap’s role in the system.

Transitioning to New Primo itself is a very complicated process. We started it in July and went live in December. It’s not just migrating the files, but it’s setting up this complex system that’s much more complex than Voyager. I would make clear what version you’re on because we had moved to the newer release of Primo, Primo VE, for which we needed a new code for StackMap. Once we communicated to StackMap’s team that we were on the newer version, we got the code and we were fine.

The StackMap piece is functioning exactly how we want it. The map card overlay that comes up has been updated from the one we had in Voyager, and it’s a nicer layout. Before, the call number was listed at the top of the image and the students didn’t really see it. Now that it’s been updated, it’s easier to read and understand [see below].
